Malaya Movement urges the Supreme Court: Strike down the Anti-Terror Law!

February 8, 2021

The Malaya Movement joins the rest of the Filipino people in calling for the junking of the atrocious Anti-Terror Act of 2020. We urge the Supreme Court to uphold the Filipino peoples universal rights by striking down the Anti-Terror Law and declaring it unconstitutional.

We give our full support and confidence to the courageous lawyers and lawmakers who are standing their ground during the Supreme Court oral arguments in defense of human rights and democracy.

We especially applaud them and all those fighting against Duterte’s tyranny. Under Duterte, progressive thought, critical voices and activism has become a dangerous undertaking.

We condemn the Duterte regime’s maneuvers to silence the two Aeta petitioners, Jasper Gurung and Junior Ramos. They’re the first case to be charged formally under the Anti-Terror Law. Solicitor General Jose Calida informed the court that the two have withdrawn their petition. This clearly smells of coercion.

We call on Filipinos and our allies everywhere to protest and remind the Philippine government of our continued opposition to the Anti-Terror Law and Duterte’s terrorist government.

We urge everyone to continue to monitor the Supreme Court oral argument proceedings. If the Supreme Court fails to heed the call of the Filipino people, we must be prepared to continue to challenge the Anti-Terror Law and Duterte’s terrorist regime in the parliament of the streets.
