This year marks the 39th Anniversary of the People Power Uprising or EDSA I when millions took to the streets to oust the Marcos Sr. regime after years of fascist violence, plunder, and corruption. It is critical that we recognize and uplift this pivotal moment in our history in the face of blatant revisionism and erasure by the current Marcos Jr. regime.

The 2025 midterm elections in the Philippines is underway. We’ve seen the political tug-of-war between the ruling dynasties, the Marcoses and Dutertes. Marcos created his “Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas”, a slate of 12 senators full of corrupt politicians, plunderers, and land grabbers. Meanwhile, Rodrigo Duterte has decided to run for Mayor in Davao, the city where he first implemented the deadly war on drugs, and as of February, Sara Duterte has been impeached by the House of Representatives for her failures and corruption as Vice President.

Malaya Movement USA vehemently rejects the human rights violations that our kababayan have been subjected to by the Trump administration’s mass deportations.

Defend Philippine Sovereignty! Statement on the U.S. Spy Plane crash in the Philippines

Malaya Movement USA is alarmed by the news of a plane crash in Maguindanao Del Sur that killed 4 people. Specifically, we are gravely concerned that this tragic flight was for the purpose of surveillance, provided by the U.S. Department of Defense and the Pentagon to the Marcos administration.

As you read this, Malaya Movement members across the country are urgently responding to Trump's mass deportations, which have included Filipino immigrants, and renewed promises by this administration to fund violations of international humanitarian law in the Philippines, as well as a regional war with China that puts the Philippines in the dead center. We joined the streets on inauguration day to show our communities that we need to come out and band together to protect each other. Protect our communities against fascists and join Malaya Movement!

Just days after thousands rallied for Sara Duterte’s impeachment, including Malaya Movement USA members, the House of Representatives finally took action. With 215 votes, two-thirds of the House endorsed Sara’s impeachment, more than enough to move the proceedings forward to the Senate for an impeachment trial and another round of votes. We urge the Senate to act swiftly and realize the will of the people.
