Marcos out of DC! Defend Philippine Sovereignty!
Malaya Movement USA strongly opposes Marcos Jr.’s 4th visit to the United States and the trilateral meeting and summit between Marcos Jr., US President Joe Biden, and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio of Japan. The White House claims that this summit will promote “economic growth,” “clean energy supply chains,” and “peace and security,” a mere smokescreen to reinforce unequal economic and military arrangements prescribed by the United States that will further violate Philippine sovereignty and plunge us into open conflict with China.
Like his father, who visited the United States in 1982 to secure funding for his corrupt Bataan Nuclear Power Plant project, Marcos Jr.’s visits to New York, Washington, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Hawaii in the past two years have sealed deals that will, in actuality, sell off Philippine territory and resources to foreign companies and secured U.S. military backing that will further provoke Chinese aggression in the West Philippine Sea.
Moreover, Japan’s inclusion in this Trilateral Meeting will likely facilitate increased Philippine debt to Japan, as the Philippine external debt to Japan has increased from $13 billion in 2022 to $15 billion in 2023. The Marcos regime falsely claims that foreign investment will benefit the Filipino people, but the kidnappings and killings of environmental activists in the Philippines demonstrates that “green” investments bring increased militarization and attacks against indigenous peoples and their allies in order to complete these projects.
This Trilateral Meeting precedes the Balikatan War Games later this month as well as the Rim of the Pacific Exercises beginning in June. In the coming months, the Israeli Spyder Defense System, a ground-based air defense system that costs $141 million, will be tested on Philippine territory. These war games bring environmental destruction, including damage to the Pacific's marine biodiversity, and put the Philippines, Taiwan, and other Asian countries in the first line of fire in the U.S.’s Cold War for who can secure the bigger share of the global market with China. Amidst the ongoing problem of inflation, rising unemployment, forced displacement from the countryside to the cities, and forced displacement from the Philippines altogether, we question why the Philippines participates in these costly war games, rather than addressing the problems of the everyday Filipino citizen.
Join Filipinos across the US, in the Philippines and around the world to oppose Marcos Jr.’s visit to the US! Marcos out of DC! End all unequal military and economic agreements between the US and the Philippines! Defend Philippine Sovereignty!
