Pahayag ng Malaya Movement tungkol sa Community Pantry Movement

Buong-buong sinusuportahan ng Malaya Movement ang sambayanang Pilipino at ang kaniyang Community Pantry Movement. Nagsimula sa isang maliit na kariton sa Maginhawa St. Quezon City ay lumaganap sa isang pambansang kilusan ng mga komunidad na nagdadamayan at nagtutulungan. Sa isang banda, ipinapakita nito ang nakakainspire na diwa ng bayanihan at sama-samang pagkilos. Sa kabilang banda, sinasalamin nito ang malupit na reyalidad ng malaganap na desperasyon at kagutuman. Ito ay malinaw na direktang resulta ng kapalpakan ng rehimeng Duterte.

Sa gitna ng patuloy na tumataas na bilang ng kaso ng COVID-19 na nasa 10,000 kaso kada araw, ang ayuda ng rehimeng Duterte ay nananatiling matumal at disorganisado. Tama lamang at makatarungan na punahin ng mamamayang ang kapalpakan ng rehimeng Duterte at sabayang punan ang puwang ng kriminal na kapabayaan ng gobyerno. Nananawagan ang Malaya Movement sa ating mga kababayan sa United States at ibang bansa na patuloy na magmobilisa ngsuporta para sa mga community pantries sa Pilipinas at suportahan ang panawagan para sa 10,000 piso na ayuda.

Sa halip na suportahan ang inisyatiba ng mamamayan, ang mga bukadora ni Duterte na sina Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr. at Lorraine Badoy ng National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) ay nagsimulang umatake at mang-red tag ng mga community pantry at mga organisador nito, sinasabing gawa-gawa daw ng mga komunista at mga rebelde ang mga ito. Maraming mga ulat ng pulis at mga militar ang nang-haharass at nang-profile ng mga organisador ng mga community pantry sa buong bansa. Ito ang nagdulot ng pagsasara ng ilan bunsod ng takot para sa kanilang kaligtasan. Bilang pagtutol, mayroon ngayong 750 na mga community pantry sa buong bansa. Ang mga community pantry na ito ay dapat na magsilbi bilang mga binhi ng pagtutol laban sa rehimeng Duterte.

Ang Malaya Movement ay kaisa ng sambayanan sa panawagan nitong agad na patalsikin sina Parlade at Badoy, sa pagbubuwag ng NTF-ELCAC at sa pagre-allocate ng 19 bilyon nitong pondo tungo sa mga programang pang-ayuda. Higit pa dito, inuulit namin ang pinapalakas ang panawagan ng mamamayan sa agarang pagbibitiw sa pwesto ni Duterte. Kung walang planong tumulong si Duterte ay marapat pang tumabi nalang siya at huwag humarang sa daan ng mga taong gustong tumulong.

Malaya Movement’s statement on the Community Pantry Movement

The Malaya Movement fully supports the Filipino people and their Community Pantry movement. What started in a small bamboo cart in Maginhawa street, Quezon City resonated to many and blossomed into a nationwide movement of communities helping each other. On one hand, this reflects the inspiring bayanihan spirit of helping each other. On the other, this reflects the grim reality of widespread desperation and hunger. This is a direct result of the disastrous pandemic response of the Duterte regime. 

Amidst surging numbers of COVID-19 cases with 10,000 cases per day, the Duterte regime’s social amelioration program and assistance remains scarce, minimal and bureaucratic. It is only right and just for the people to criticize the incompetence of the Duterte regime and simultaneously take it upon themselves to fill in the void left by government’s criminal negligence. The Malaya Movement calls on the people, our compatriots in the United States and overseas, to mobilize support for the community pantries in the Philippines and support the growing demand for 10,000 pesos social assistance now.

Instead of supporting the people’s initiative, Duterte ’s mouthpieces Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr. and Lorraine Badoy of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) started attacking and red-tagging the community pantries and its organizers, claiming that they are the handiwork of communists and rebels. Widespread reports of police and military harassing and profiling community pantry organizers across the country. This led to some pantries closing out of fear for their safety. In direct defiance, there are now more than 750 community pantries across the country. These community pantries should serve as seeds of resistance against the Duterte regime. 

The Malaya Movement joins the people in demanding the immediate firing of Parlade and Badoy, the abolition of the NTF-ELCAC and the reallocation of their 19 billion peso budget towards community pantries and social amelioration programs. More than that, we reiterate and amplify the people’s demand for Duterte’s immediate resignation. If the Duterte regime does not plan on helping, it should get out of the way of those who do.
