Malaya Movement calls to donate in response to the Typhoons in the Philippines
The Malaya Movement calls on our members, supporters and allies to urgently raise support and relief for those who are affected by the series of typhoons that hit the Philippines. We urge our chapters, supporters and allies to organize fundraisers, solicit donations and hold activities in support of the peoples’ relief efforts.
This past November 1, this year’s strongest typhoon, Super Typhoon Goni (Rolly) made landfall in the Philippines. A category 5 typhoon, Typhoon Goni hit the region of Bicol, displacing more than 390,000, leaving 25 dead and more than $369,000 worth of damages. Just this week, typhoon Vamco (Ulysses) has submerged Metro Manila, reminiscent of Typhoon Ketsana (Ondoy) of 2009. It is the 6th typhoon in five weeks. According to reports, it has already displaced more than 200,000 people, submerged more than 40,000 homes under water and left 3.8 million without electricity.
The Malaya Movement will be partnering with the Nafcon National Alliance for Filipino Concerns and the Citizens' Disaster Response Center, as well as with other grassroots organizations in the Philippines to ensure that our donations reach the impacted communities directly.
