Reject a Duterte-led Revolutionary Government
Malaya Movement’s Statement on the Proposals for a “Revolutionary Government”
The Malaya Movement condemns moves to establish a Duterte-led “revolutionary government”. The Movement calls on the people to oppose any maneuvers to further give the tyrant in Malacanang any more dictatorial powers.
The call was made by a gathering of the so-called “People’s National Coalition for Revolutionary Government and Charter Change” with the aims of convincing Duterte to declare a revolutionary government. The said revolutionary government, according to the coalition, will be headed by none other than Duterte joined by an unelected “interim revolutionary council.”
The Malaya Movement believes that the proposal for a revolutionary government is not only dangerous but also serves as a distraction from the most urgent issues that the Filipino people are currently facing: the COVID 19 pandemic, widespread loss of livelihood among many others.
The proposal for a revolutionary government aims to pave the way for unlimited powers in the hands of the already tyrannical reign of Duterte. A Duterte-led revolutionary government is nothing but a full-blown dictatorship.
We must also scrutinize and expose the aims of this so-called “revolutionary government.” The revolutionary government proposal aims to push the much discredited move for charter change that only aims to further open up the Philippine economy to foreign plunder and exploitation through the elimination of the ban of 100% foreign ownership, and also enables the creation of small kingdoms under political dynasties, to name a few of its proposed provisions.
Instead of entertaining the proposals for a revolutionary government, Duterte should focus on getting its act together and address the COVID 19 pandemic and the growing poverty of the Filipino people.
Though the Malaya Movement welcomes statements from Duterte and military generals rejecting the idea, we still call on the Filipino people to maintain vigilance. The people cannot trust the duplicitous Duterte regime. Duterte and his minions have a long track record of saying one thing and doing the other. The people must be prepared to take action and reject the proposals for a revolutionary government and any moves to give Duterte more powers.
