Hold Quiboloy Accountable!

Malaya Movement USA responds to U.S. Department of Treasury’s sanction of Apollo Quiboloy

On December 9, 2022, on the eve of International Human Rights Day, the U.S. Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced that it is sanctioning rapist and sex trafficker Apollo Quiboloy. This sanction would freeze Quiboloy’s assets in the U.S., from bank accounts to any real estate holdings. It would also prevent businesses from engaging in any deals with Quiboloy. Quiboloy is one among 40 individuals that the U.S. Department of Treasury sanctioned for corruption and human rights violations.

Quiboloy’s list of crimes is long. In 2008, Quiboloy was accused of killing K’lata-Bagobos leader Datu Domingo Diarog and his family after they refused to sell their land to the pastor. Quibology slammed the accusations as “baseless.” In 2014, a Lumad group from Barangay Manuel Guianga decried the forceful entry of at least 40 armed men, who ordered them to leave their homes. The men allegedly were hired by Quiboloy so that he could extend his “kingdom.”

In 2022, Quiboloy was indicted by the California Federal Grand Jury for conspiracy to Engage in Sex Trafficking by Force, Fraud and Coercion, and Sex Trafficking of Children; Sex Trafficking by Force, Fraud, and Coercion; Conspiracy and Bulk Cash Smuggling. This put Quiboloy on the FBI’s most wanted list.

Quiboloy feels invincible not because of his claims of being the “son of god” but because of the patronage and protection that the Philippine government provides him in return for his political support.

The Malaya Movement USA welcomes this action by the OFAC as a concrete step towards holding Quiboloy accountable for his crimes. We ask that the U.S. government go further and sanction other known corrupt and human rights violators in the Philippines including Rodrigo Duterte himself and his cabal of military generals.

In line with this, we ask U.S. owned businesses and big social media platforms Facebook and Youtube to ban Quiboloy and his network, Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) on their websites. Quiboloy’s media network has been at the center of the spread of disinformation and dangerous red-tagging.

We call on our supporters and concerned Filipinos to join the Malaya Movement to hold Quiboloy accountable for his crimes on behalf of all his victims.
