Impeach Sara! Fight against poverty, corruption, and lack of accountability!
Just days after thousands rallied for Sara Duterte’s impeachment, including Malaya Movement USA members, the House of Representatives finally took action. With 215 votes, two-thirds of the House endorsed Sara’s impeachment, more than enough to move the proceedings forward to the Senate for an impeachment trial and another round of votes. We urge the Senate to act swiftly and realize the will of the people.
Four impeachment cases have been filed against Sara, with the second case focusing on betrayal of public trust, while the others cite violations of the Constitution. At the heart of each case is Sara’s blatant misuse of confidential and intelligence funds, as well as her public proclamations of an assassination plot against Marcos Jr. It should be no surprise that the daughter of a fascist dictator lives up to her father’s legacy.
While we celebrate this step forward in holding Sara accountable for her shameful tenure as the Vice President of the Philippines, we remain vigilant regarding the Marcos Jr. regime’s next moves. With only a week left until the official Midterm Elections campaign season begins, the Marcos versus Duterte grab for power will only intensify. Marcos Jr. is guilty of corruption and crimes against the Filipino people and must also be held to account.
This month is the 39th Anniversary of EDSA People Power I when the Marcoses were ousted from power. Let us commemorate EDSA I and expose the ongoing corruption that the people so defiantly fought against during this mass people’s uprising. Let us draw inspiration from the Filipino legacy of resistance that has toppled dictators and corrupt politicians in the past. And let’s demand justice by holding Marcos accountable for the crimes committed by his family against the Filipino people, while also ensuring Rodrigo Duterte faces responsibility for his brutal war on drugs which resulted in 30,000+ extrajudicial killings and his other fascist policies targeting activists.
