Malaya Movement USA condemns China’s aggressive acts vs Philippine vessel
The Malaya Movement USA condemns China’s aggressive actions in the West Philippine Sea. We call on the Philippine government to exhaust all diplomatic means to protest China’s actions as well as to assert our sovereignty in the territory.
Last August 5, Chinese Coast Guard blocked and fired water cannons at a Philippine Navy chartered vessel on its way to the Ayungin Shoals to deliver supplies to the BSP Sierra Madre.
This incident is part of a growing list of transgressions of China. This past June, 50 Chinese fishing vessels with Chinese coast guards and military vessels were spotted in Sabina Shoal. In April, the Philippine coast guard reported aggressive maneuvers from Chinese vessels. The Chinese coast guard continues to harass Filipino fishermen. In February, the Philippine Coast Guard reported being attacked using military-grade lasers. These attacks are increasing in frequency as the United States military presence in the Asia-Pacific in general, and in the Philippines in particular, continues to grow.
We reiterate our position for the immediate demilitarization of the West Philippine Sea. This means the immediate removal of Chinese vessels and the removal of U.S. navy and military presence. The Filipino people are caught in the crossfire between the two rival superpowers as President Marcos Jr. appeases the United States through the reinforcement of unequal military treaties. We believe that the growing presence of the United States in the Philippines will continue to escalate the tensions in the West Philippine Sea and this poses a threat to the Filipino people and Philippine sovereignty.
Ultimately, we call on Filipino people to show their indignation and protest against these recent acts of aggression by China. Join the Malaya Movement USA and join us in our call to defend Philippine sovereignty against all foreign encroachment!
