Duterte Ikulong! Justice for victims of Duterte’s War on Drugs!
As the Philippine Congress investigates former dictator President Rodrigo Duterte’s War on Drugs, Malaya Movement USA reiterates our ongoing commitment to the victims and survivors of the deadly war. Our organization was founded in direct response to this mindless killing spree that many have been fooled into thinking ended with the elder Duterte. This investigation is one step in holding Duterte and his fascist ilk accountable for the over 30,000 killed during his reign, but it is not enough.
Royina Garma, former police officer and confidant of Duterte, testified in Congress about the drug war’s rewards model, with cash rewards amounting to anywhere between P20,000 to P1 million per victim killed. Self-professed drug lord, Kerwin Espinosa also alleged that Sen. Bato Dela Rosa compelled him to implicate Sen. Leila De Lima and he complied only out of fear. Duterte has also bluntly claimed responsibility for the 30,000+ killed under his regime and claims no remorse. He also admitted to directing police to compel suspects to fight back, giving them cause to kill those accused.
We echo the calls to arrest and imprison Duterte! There is no other acceptable outcome from his claims under oath.
While we should welcome this step towards accountability for a mass murderer, we also should not be under any illusions that this hearing is not primarily Marcos Jr.’s attempt to bury his rival. If Marcos Jr. genuinely cares for the people devastated by this murder spree, he would have put an end to it. If he were genuine he would return to the International Criminal Court and exhaust all efforts to hold Duterte and his cronies accountable. But the war on drugs continues under the regime, with the Dahas Project reporting at least 820 confirmed killings since 2022.
Malaya Movement USA will continue to pursue justice for all victims of EJKs and through our efforts to Pass the Philippine Human Rights Act which would stop US security assistance to the Philippines until human rights abuses cease, are investigated, and human rights violators are held accountable. Both Marcos and Duterte are responsible for countless deaths and should be held accountable. Our US tax dollars must not be used to continue to commit more crimes against the Filipino people.
Pass the Philippine Human Rights Act!
