Malaya Movement USA Celebrates Fil-Am History Month!
This October, Malaya Movement USA chapters across the country took part in Filipino-American History Month. We joined different organizations under the theme “Struggle, Resistance, Solidarity, and Resilience”
Each year for FAHM, Malaya Movement USA highlights the history and legacy of Filipino-led anti-fascist organizing against Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s dictatorial rule in the Philippines and crimes committed under Martial Law in 1972. Marcos Sr.’s reign directly caused thousands of Filipinos to leave the country to escape political repression and the economic crisis caused by a system of unmitigated corruption he himself manufactured.
As an anti-fascist organization built on that legacy of resistance against Marcos’ tyranny, Malaya works to expose and resist the parallels between then and the present under the Marcos Jr. and Duterte regimes. Tyranny did not end with Marcos Sr: political repression and deadly attacks are increasing against activists and organizations in the Philippines but also those based here in the US. In the spirit of Struggle and Resistance, we are working to increase the desire for genuine social change that respects human rights, democracy, and sovereignty in the Philippines, with Malaya Movement USA chapters blooming throughout the country.
