Prepare to Fight Fascism!
Malaya Movement USA on Donald Trump’s presidential win
During the entirety of the 2024 election cycle, the members of the Malaya Movement have stressed that regardless of which candidate wins the United States presidency, there’s a long road ahead in order to advance the interests of the Filipino-American community. And while we face the same anti-people, anti-immigrant, anti-poor, and pro-war policies as we would if Kamala Harris had won, we are aware that these will be made worse by an openly fascist, violent, racist, and xenophobic agenda that Donald Trump brings with him to the White House.
As an organization founded to counter U.S.-supported fascism in the Philippines, we call on the rest of the Filipino-American community to join the Malaya Movement, especially now that we face a Trump comeback. Marcos touted freedom and democracy as a foundation to the “unshakeable alliance” between the PH and the US in his message to Trump. A fascist congratulating another fascist should be a warning to all of us. Political repression and violence against progressives, workers, and everyday people is central to Marcos’ own fascist rule and we’ve seen Trump deploy the same during his first run as president. We need to keep strengthening an organized, sustained movement fighting against anti-people domestic and foreign policies that are sure to be worse under Trump.
Malaya Movement USA is one of the proud organizers of the Filipino-American Agenda, an agenda entirely written by Filipino-Americans and immigrants who are first-hand experiencing issues of anti-Asian violence, anti-immigrant discrimination, severe economic and housing insecurity, and much more. The agenda also advocates for a U.S. foreign policy that doesn’t arm the fascist Marcos government and calls for an end to the US backed genocide of the Palestinian people. Predictably, the fascist Project 2025 attached to Trump is completely hostile to the Filipino-American Agenda.
Regardless, we’re compelled to point out that the issues of Filipino-Americans have persisted across administrations, whether Republican or Democrat. In fact, whether Harris or Trump, Malaya Movement members are certain that U.S. foreign policy regarding the Philippines remains militaristic, contemptuous of human rights and lives, hellbent on dragging us into a war with China, and supportive of violence and corruption under Marcos Jr. That’s why part of our advocacy is educating the Filipino-American community of the fact that change comes from organized movements that do the work before, during, and after Election Day.
Under a Trump presidency, Malaya Movement re-commits itself to organizing a movement fighting fascism, advancing the welfare and safety of Filipinos, and protecting democracy, human rights, and sovereignty for the Philippines.
