SHUTDOWN SMNI - META, Youtube, X: Stop platforming criminals
The current Senate probe into Apollo Quiboloy’s alleged sex trafficking and human trafficking crimes, as well as the Supreme Court case against red-tagger and serial liar Lorraine Badoy, signifies a step towards justice and accountability for Quiboloy’s victims and those harmed by Badoy’s vile and life-threatening vitriol. Malaya Movement USA supports efforts to expose Quiboloy’s disinformation network, the Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI), for coddling human rights violators and peddlers of disinformation like Badoy, former President Duterte, and Quiboloy himself.
While Sen. Risa Hontiveros has ordered Quiboloy be held in contempt for failing to appear at the Senate hearings where victims and key witnesses recount his crimes, other senators, led by Sen. Robinhood Padilla and Sen. Imee Marcos, are trying to overturn the order. Badoy was fined and given a warning for her egregious red-tagging and threats against Judge Marlo Magdoza-Malagar, who famously junked a petition against the terrorist tagging of the Communist Party of the Philippines back in 2022. At the time, Malagar received widespread support from the legal community, including the Supreme Court, which warned Badoy about being charged in contempt for threatening a judge. However, the measly P30,000 fine indicates that the justice system has a long way to go in taking redtagging seriously.
Social media platforms, like Facebook and Youtube, have done the bare minimum by temporarily banning pages owned and operated by SMNI and Badoy. Efforts to report new SMNI pages are met with inaction. It is high time for these social media pages to take concrete and long-lasting actions against SMNI and Quiboloy - permanently ban them from Facebook, Youtube, and X. Implement necessary safeguards and monitoring to prevent them from returning. Shutdown SMNI!
