Malaya Movement’s Statement on Duterte’s State of the Nation Address

The Malaya Movement joins the Filipino people both in the homeland and around the world in their just demand: Wakasan na! End the Duterte regime! More than five years of incompetence, treachery and brutality. The people have had enough of Duterte. 

We must all firm up our resolve to end the Duterte regime. Rodrigo Duterte has openly declared his lust for power and desire to escape accountability by running for Vice President together with Sara Duterte, his daughter and current mayor of Davao City.

We call on the people to prepare for the worsening situation in the Philippines. We must be prepared to take bolder actions in any eventuality. We must continue to be vigilant as we await the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the petitions against the Anti-Terror Law. 

We must step up our campaign to pass the Philippine Human Rights Act. We must call out U.S. President Biden for his cozying up with Duterte at the expense of human rights and democracy. We must use every available legal instrument to punish the most rabid among Duterte’s attack dogs like Parlade and other human rights violators.

It is critical that we come together and strengthen our resolve to fight for human rights, democracy and sovereignty in the Philippines. We must organize a mass movement who can and will vote out Duterte or his anointed candidate in the 2022 national elections. With the whole state machinery and resources in their favor, expect Duterte and his camp to use this to benefit the administration’s candidates. We must also organize to ensure clean and honest elections.
